How We Work Together

Hiring an advocate shouldn't feel like one more confusing system to figure out. Here's exactly what happens after you sign on, what I handle, and what I'll need from you.

You stay the lead voice. I'm there to prepare you, back you up, and make sure nothing gets missed. You know your child best, and the team needs to hear it from you.

The Process

  1. Send your documents (Day 1). Upload or email every IEP, evaluation, and meeting invitation you have. Don't worry about organizing them.

  2. Document review (3 to 5 business days). I go through everything to find the gaps: missing data, goals that don't match the evaluations, services that were promised but never written in. You don't need to do anything during this step.

  3. Strategy call. We walk through what I found, talk honestly about what's realistic, and agree on a plan.

  4. Records request and parent statement (1 to 2 business days). I draft a records request and a written parent input statement. You review it, change anything that doesn't sound like you, and sign off.

  5. Pre-meeting prep. Shortly before the meeting, we have a final call so we walk in with the same priorities and the same plan.

  6. The IEP meeting. I attend with you, take notes, and advocate actively so you can focus on the conversation instead of scrambling to write everything down.

  7. Post IEP Meeting. I review documents and give guidance on how to respond.

What I Do

  • Analyze IEPs, evaluations, and progress data

  • Draft records requests, parent input statements, and state complaints

  • Attend IEP and 504 meetings alongside you

What I Don't Do

Advocates are not attorneys. I don't handle due process hearings, settlement agreements, or matters involving law enforcement.

What I Need From You

  • Forward school emails within 24 hours. Schools often send updates, schedule changes, and draft documents with little notice. If I see them late, we lose time to respond.

  • Check with me before confirming meeting dates. Schools will propose times quickly. A quick text to me before you say yes means I can actually be there.
